David Price traded to Tigers in 3 team deal

David Price was traded by the Tampa Bay Rays to the Detroit Tigers on July 31, 2014. The Seattle Mariners were also involved in the deal and they received Austin Jackson from Detroit. The Rays received Drew Smyly and Willy Adames from Detroit and Nick Franklin from Seattle.

LHP Price was 11-8, 3.11 ERA, 189 K, 1.05 WHIP in 170.2 IP over 23 games with the Rays in 2014. Over seven MLB seasons with the Rays he was 82-47, 3.18 ERA, 1065 K, 1.14 WHIP in 1143.2 IP over 175 games. He was originally drafted by the Rays with the first over all pick in 2007. Price will be 29 on August 26.

Jackson is an outfielder who hit .270/.330/.397 with 4 HR, 32 RBI, 52 R, 9 SB in 99 games with the Tigers in 2014. Over five MLB seasons with the Tigers he hit .277/.342/.413 with 46 HR, 233 RBI, 447 R, 78 SB in 669 games. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the eighth round in 2005 and was traded to the Tigers in 2009. Jackson turned 27 on February 1st.

LHP Smyly was 6-9, 3.77 ERA, 87 K, 1.31 WHIP in 100.1 IP over 20 games with the Tigers in 2014. Over three MLB seasons with the Tigers he was 16-12, 3.46 ERA, 262 K, 1.22 WHIP, 2 SV in 275.2 IP over 106 games. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the second round in 2010. Smyly turned 25 on June 13.

Franklin is a SS\2B who had split 2014 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .294/.392/.455 with 9 HR, 47 RBI, 45 R, 9 SB in 75 games at Tacoma and .128/.192/.170 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 SB in 17 games with the Mariners. Over two MLB seasons with the Mariners he hit .214/.291/.358 with 12 HR, 47 RBI, 41 R, 7 SB in 119 games. He was originally drafted by the Mariners with the 27th pick of the first round in 2009. Franklin turned 23 on March 2nd.

Adames is a SS\3B who played at Class A West Michigan where he hit .269/.346/.428 with 6 HR, 50 RBI, 40 R, 3 SB in 98 games. He originally signed with the Tigers in 2012 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Adames will be 19 on September 2nd.
