Miguel Montero traded to Cubs

Miguel Montero was traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Chicago Cubs on December 9, 2014. In exchange the Diamondbacks received Jeferson Mejia and Zack Godley.

Montero is a catcher who in 2014 hit .243/.329/.370 with 13 HR, 72 RBI, 40 R, 0 SB in 136 games with the Diamondbacks. Over nine MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks he hit .264/.342/.421 with 97 HR, 448 RBI, 365 R, 2 SB in 906 games. His caught stealing rate is 31%. He originally signed with the Diamondbacks in 2001 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Montero will be 32 on July 9.

RHP Mejia pitched in 2014 at Rookie Arizona wher he was 2-4, 2.48 ERA, 45 K, 1.18 WHIP, .204 BAA in 40.0 IP over 12 games. He originally signed with the Cubs in 2013 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Mejia will be 21 on August 2nd.

RHP Godley split 2014 between Class A Kane County and Class A Advanced Daytona as he was 1-1, 1.80 ERA, 25 K, 1.07 WHIP, .170 BAA, 7 SV in 15.0 IP over 11 games at Kane County and 3-2, 3.57 ERA, 52 K, 1.41 WHIP, .253 BAA, 8 SV in 40.1 IP over 29 games at Daytona. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 10th round in 2013. Godley will be 25 on April 21.
