Francisco Cervelli traded to Pirates

Francisco Cervelli was traded by the New York Yankees to the Pittsburgh Pirates on November 12, 2014. In exchange the Yankees received Justin Wilson.

Cervelli is a catcher who split 2014 between Class A Advanced Tampa, Triple A Trenton and Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre while rehabbing and with the Yankees. He hit .000/.143/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Tampa, .133/.350/.133 with 0 HR, 0 RBi, 2 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Trenton, .182/.182/.182 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 R, 0 SB in 3 games at SWB and .301/.370/.432 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, 18 R, 1 SB in 49 games with the Yankees. Over seven MLB seasons with the Yankees he hit .278/.348/.381 with 10 HR, 92 RBI, 88 R, 6 SB in 250 games, His caught stealing rate is 22%. He originally signed with the Yankees in 2003 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Cervelli will be 29 on March 6th.

LHP Wilson pitched with the Pirates in 2014 as he was 3-4, 4.20 ERA, 61 K, 1.32 WHIP, .220 BAA in 60.0 IP over 70 games. Over three MLB seasons with the Pirates he was 9-5, 2.99 ERA, 127 K, 1.23 WHIP, .216 BAA in 138.1 IP over 136 games. He was originally drafted by the Pirates in the fifth round in 2008. Wilson will be 28 on August 18.
