Anthony Varvaro traded to Red Sox

Anthony Varvaro was traded by the Atlanta Braves to the Boston Red Sox on December 17, 2014. In exchange the Braves received Aaron Kurcz and cash.

RHP Varvaro in 2014 was 3-3, 2.63 ERA, 50 K, 1.08 WHIP, .228 BAA in 54.2 IP over 61 games with the Braves. Over five MLB seasons with the Braves and Mariners he was 7-8, 3.18 ERA, 142 K, 1.25 WHIP, .234 BAA, 1 SV in 172.2 IP over 157 games. He was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 12th round in 2005. Varvaro turned 30 on October 31.

RHP Kurcz pitched in 2014 at Double A Portland where he was 3-2, 2.14 ERA, 54 K, 1.29 WHIP, .204 BAA, 3 SV in 42.0 IP over 34 games. He was originally drafted by the Cubs in the 11th round in 2010 and was traded to the Red Sox in 2012. Kurcz will be 25 on August 8th.
