Stephen Drew traded to Yankees

Stephen Drew was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees on July 31, 2014. The Red Sox in exchange received Kelly Johnson.

Drew is a shortstop who had split 2014 between Triple A Pawtucket and the Red Sox. He hit .238/.304/.381 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 7 games at Pawtucket and .176/.255/.328 with 4 HR, 11 RBI, 11 R, 1 SB in 39 games with the Red Sox. Over nine MLB seasons with the Red Sox, Athletics and Diamondbacks he has hit .261/.326/.431 with 94 HR, 427 RBI, 482 R, 41 SB in 975 games. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks with the 15th pick of the first round in 2004. Drew turned 31 on March 16.

Johnson is a 2B\3B\OF who hit .219/.304/.373 with 6 HR, 22 RBI, 21 R, 2 SB in 77 games with the Yankees in 2014. Over nine MLB seasons with the Yankees, Rays, Blue Jays, Diamondbacks and Braves he has hit .251/.333/.424 with 130 HR, 464 RBI, 561 R, 81 SB in 1128 games. He was originally drafted by the Braves with the 38th pick of the first round in 2000. Johnson turned 32 on February 22.
