The Texas Rangers selected the contracts of Lisalverto Bonilla and Luis Sardinas from Double A Frisco and Ben Rowen from Triple A Round Rock and placed them on the Rangers 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.
RHP Bonilla split 2013 between Frisco and Triple A Round Rock. He was 2-0, 0.30 ERA, 50 K, 0.82 WHIP, 6 SV in 30.1 IP over 21 games at Frisco and was 5-5, 7.95 ERA, 56 K, 1.77 WHIP in 43.0 IP over 26 games at Round Rock. He originally signed with the Phillies in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He was traded to the Rangers in 2012. Bonilla turned 23 on June 18.
Sardinas is a shortstop who split 2013 between Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach and Frisco. He hit .298/.358/.360 with 1 HR, 31 RBI, 69 R, 27 SB in 97 games at Myrtle Beach and hit .259/.286/.311 with 1 HR, 15 RBI, 12 R, 5 SB in 29 games at Frisco. He originally signed with the Rangers in 2009 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Sardinas turned 20 on May 16.
RHP Rowen split 2013 between Double A Frisco and Round Rock. He was 3-0, 0.53 ERA, 28 K, 1.01 WHIP, 10 SV in 33.2 IP over 31 games at Frisco and was 3-1, 0.84 ERA, 30 K, 0.75 WHIP, 3 SV in 32.0 IP over 20 games at Round Rock. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the 22nd round in 2010. Rowen turned 25 on November 15.
