The Cleveland Indians selected the contracts of Erik Gonzalez from Class A Advanced Carolina, Austin Adams, Jesus Aguilar and Carlos Moncrief from Double A Akron and Bryan Price from Triple A Columbus and placed them on the Indians 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.
Gonzalez is a SS\3B who split 2013 between Class A Lake County and Carolina. He hit .259/.307/.439 with 9 HR, 49 RBI, 59 R, 10 SB in 93 games at Lake County and hit .242/.259/.366 with 0 HR, 27 RBI, 16 R, 1 SB in 39 games at Carolina. He originally signed with the Indians in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Gonzalez turned 22 on August 31.
RHP Adams pitched in 2013 at Akron. He was 3-2, 2.62 ERA, 76 K, 1.33 WHIP, 4 SV in 55.0 IP over 45 games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the fifth round in 2009. Adams turned 27 on August 19.
Aguilar is a first baseman who played in 2013 at Akron. He hit .275/.349/.427 with 16 HR, 105 RBI, 66 R, 0 SB in 130 games. He originally signed with the Indians in 2007 as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela. Aguilar turned 23 on June 30.
Moncrief is an outfielder who played in 2013 at Akron. He hit .284/.354/.470 with 17 HR, 75 RBI, 77 R, 15 SB in 129 games. He was originally drafted by the Indians in the 14th round in 2008. Moncrief turned 25 on November 3rd.
RHP Price split 2013 between Double A Akron and Columbus. He was 1-0, 0.56 ERA, 17 K, 0.63 WHIP, 2 SV in 16.0 IP over 12 games and was 1-3, 2.44 ERA, 75 K, 1.07 WHIP, 2 SV in 59.0 IP over 35 games at Columbus. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox with the 45th pick of the first round in 2008. Price turned 27 on November 13.
