The Baltimore Orioles selected the contracts of Michael Ohlman and Tim Berry from Class A Advanced Frederick and Eddie Gamboa from Triple A Norfolk and placed them on the Orioles 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.
Ohlman is a catcher who played in 2013 at Frederick. He hit .313/.410/.524 with 13 HR, 53 RBI, 61 R, 5 SB in 100 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round in 2009. Ohlman will be 23 on December 14.
LHP Berry pitched in 2013 at Frederick. He was 11-7, 3.85 ERA, 119 K, 1.29 WHIP in 152.0 IP over 27 games. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 50th round in 2009. Berry turned 22 on March 18.
RHP Gamboa split 2013 between Double A Bowie and Norfolk. He was 4-6, 3.64 ERA, 79 K, 1.14 WHIP in 99.0 IP over 16 games at Bowie and was 2-5, 6.23 ERA, 35 K, 1.59 WHIP in 43.1 IP over 9 games at Norfolk. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 21st round in 2008. Gamboa will be 29 on December 21.
