The Oakland Athletics selected the contract of Raul Alcantara from Class A Advanced Stockton and placed him on the Athletics 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the player from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.
RHP Alcantara split 2013 between Class A Beloit and Stockton. He was 7-1, 2.44 ERA, 58 K, 1.18 WHIP in 77.1 IP over 13 games at Beloit and was 5-5, 3.76 ERA, 66 K, 1.14 WHIP in 79.0 IP over 14 games at Stockton. He originally signed with the Red Sox in 2009 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He was traded to the Athletics in 2011. Alcantara will be 21 on December 4th.
