The Cincinnati Reds selected the contracts of Juan Duran from Class A Advanced Bakersfield, Tucker Barnhart from Double A Pensacola and Chad Rogers and Ryan LaMarre from Triple A Louisville and placed them on the Reds 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.
Duran is an outfielder who played in 2013 at Bakersfield. He hit .251/.323/.450 with 20 HR, 66 RBI, 55 R, 5 SB in 111 games. He originally signed with the Reds in 2008 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Duran turned 22 on September 2nd.
Barnhart is a catcher who played in 2013 at Pensacola. He hit .260/.348/.348 with 3 HR, 44 RBI, 31 R, 1 SB in 98 games. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the tenth round in 2009. Barnhart will be 23 on January 7th.
RHP Rogers split 2013 between Double A Pensacola and Louisville. He was 3-2, 2.20 ERA, 55 K, 1.05 WHIP in 69.2 IP over 13 games at Pensacola and was 5-5, 4.22 ERA, 48 K, 1.21 WHIP in 70.1 IP over 12 games at Louisville. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 28th round in 2010. Rogers he turned 24 on August 3rd.
LaMarre is an outfielder who split 2013 between Double A Pensacola and Louisville. He hit .246/.326/.373 with 10 HR, 39 RBI, 55 R, 22 SB in 126 games at Pensacola and hit .182/.357/.182 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 4 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Louisville. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the second round in 2010. LaMarre turned 25 on November 21.
