2013 Where are they now 2012 MLB draft top 10

The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how the top 10 players of the 2012 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The first player drafted in 2012 was shortstop Carlos Correa by the Houston Astros out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy. He played in 2013 at Class A Quad Cities. He hit .320/.405/.467 with 9 HR, 86 RBI, 73 R, 10 SB in 117 games.

The Minnesota Twins drafted outfielder Byron Buxton second out of Appling County High School in Baxley, GA. He split 2013 between Class A Cedar Rapids and Class A Advanced Fort Myers of the Minnesota Twins. He hit .341/.431/.559 with 8 HR, 55 RBI, 68 R, 32 SB in 68 games at Cedar Rapids and hit .326/.415/.472 with 4 HR, 22 RBI, 41 R, 23 SB in 57 games at Fort Myers.

The Seattle Mariners drafted catcher Mike Zunino third out of the University of Florida. He split 2013 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .227/.297/.478 with 11 HR, 43 RBI, 38 R, 0 SB in 52 games at Tacoma and hit .214/.290/.329 with 5 HR, 14 RBI, 22 R, 1 SB in 52 games with the Mariners.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted RHP Kevin Gausman fourth out of LSU. He split 2013 between Double A Bowie, Triple A Norfolk and the Orioles. He was 2-4, 3.11 ERA, 49 K, 1.06 WHIP in 46.1 IP over 8 games at Bowie, was 1-2, 4.04 ERA, 33 K, 1.26 WHIP in 35.2 IP over 8 games at Norfolk and was 3-5, 5.66 ERA, 49 K, 1.34 WHIP in 47.2 IP over 20 games with the Orioles. 

The Kansas City Royals drafted RHP Kyle Zimmer fifth out of the University of San Francisco. He split 2013 between Class A Advanced Wilmington and Double A Northwest Arkansas. He was 4-8, 4.82 ERA, 113 K, 1.24 WHIP in 89.2 IP over 18 games at Wilmington and was 2-1, 1.93 ERA, 27 K, 0.86 WHIP in 18.2 IP over 4 games at Northwest Arkansas.

The Chicago Cubs drafted outfielder Albert Almora sixth out of Mater Academy Charter School in Hialeah, FL. He played in 2013 at Class A Kane County. He hit .329/.376/.466 with 3 HR, 23 RBI, 39 R, 4 SB in 61 games.

The San Diego Padres drafted LHP Max Fried seventh out of Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles, CA. He played in 2013 at Class A Fort Wayne. He was 6-7, 3.49 ERA, 100 K, 1.37 WHIP in 118.2 IP over 23 games.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted RHP Mark Appel eighth out of Stanford. He did not sign and returned to school for his senior season. He was drafted by the Houston Astros first overall in 2013.

The Miami Marlins drafted LHP Andrew Heaney ninth out of Oklahoma State. He split 2013 between Class A Advanced Jupiter and Double A Jacksonville. He was 5-2, 0.88 ERA, 66 K, 1.01 WHIP in 61.2 IP over 13 games at Jupiter and was 4-1, 2.94 ERA, 23 K, 1.19 WHIP in 33.2 IP over 6 games at Jacksonville.

The Colorado Rockies drafted outfielder David Dahl tenth out of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, AL. He played at Class A Ashville and missed most of the season with a hamstring injury. He hit .275/.310/.425 with 0 HR, 7 RBI, 9 R, 2 SB in 10 games.
