Wil Myers 2013 AL Rookie of the Year

Wil Myers of the Tampa Bay Rays was named the American League Rookie of the Year after receiving 23 first place votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America for a total of 131 points. Others receiving first place votes were Jose Iglesias of the Red Sox and Tigers with five first place and 80 total points, Chris Archer of the Rays with one first place and 35 total points and Dan Straily of the Athletics with one first place and 15 total points. Others receiving votes were J B Shuck of the Angles with four points, Cody Allen of the Indians with two points, Martin Perez of the Rangers with two points and David Lough of the Royals with one point.

The outfielder split 2013 between Triple A Durham and the Rays. He hit .286/.356/.520 with 14 HR, 57 RBI, 44 R, 7 SB in 64 games at Durham and hit .293/.354/.478 with 13 HR, 53 RBI, 50 R, 5 SB in 88 games with the Rays. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the third round in 2009. He was traded to the Rays in 2012. Myers will be 23 on December 10.
