2013 Where are they now 2008 MLB draft picks 11 to 20

The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 11 to 20 of the 2008 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Texas Rangers drafted first baseman Justin Smoak 11th out of University of South Carolina. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2010. He split 2013 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .238/.273/.333 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Tacoma and hit .238/.334/.412 with 20 HR, 50 RBI, 53 R, 0 SB in 131 games with the Mariners.

The Oakland Athletics drafted second baseman Jemile Weeks 12th out of Miami. He split 2012 between Triple A Sacramento and the Athletics. He hit .271/.376/.369 with 4 HR, 40 RBI, 96 R, 17 SB in 130 games at Sacramento and hit .111/.111/.111 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 8 games with the Athletics.

The St Louis Cardinals drafted third baseman Brett Wallace 13th out of Arizona State. He was traded to the Athletics and later to the Blue Jays in 2009. He was traded to the Astros in 2010. He split 2013 between Triple A Oklahoma City and the Astros. He hit .326/.398/.554 with 11 HR, 37 RBI, 36 R, 1 SB in 60 games at Oklahoma City and hit .221/.284/.431 with 13 HR, 36 RBI, 35 R, 1 SB in 79 games with the Astros.

The Minnesota Twins drafted outfielder Aaron Hicks 14th out of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA. He split 2013 between Triple A Rochester and the Twins. He hit .222/.317/.333 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 1 SB in 22 games at Rochester and hit .192/.259/.338 with 8 HR, 27 RBI, 37 R, 9 SB in 81 games with the Twins.

The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted RHP Ethan Martin 15th out of Stephens County High School in Toccoa, GA. He was traded to the Phillies in 2012. He split 2013 between Triple A Lehigh Valley and the Phillies. He was 11-5, 4.12 ERA, 107 K, 1.39 WHIP in 115.2 IP over 21 games at Lehigh Valley and was 2-5, 6.08 ERA, 47 K, 1.70 WHIP in 40.0 IP over 15 games with the Phillies.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted catcher Brett Lawrie 16th out of Brookswood Secondary School in Langley, BC. He was traded to the Blue Jays in 2010. He split 2013 rehabbing in the minors at Class A Lansing, Class A Advanced Dunedin, Double A New Hampshire,Triple A Buffalo and with the Blue Jays. He hit .000/.250/.000 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 2 games at Lansing, hit .500/.538/.750 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Dunedin, hit .333/.538/.333 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 3 R, 0 SB in 3 games at New Hampshire, hit .167/.231/.417 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 1 SB in 3 games at Buffalo and hit .254/.315/.397 with 11 HR, 46 RBI, 41 RBI, 9 SB in 107 games with the Blue Jays.

The Toronto Blue Jays drafted first baseman David Cooper 17th out of  University of California-Berkeley. He was released by the Blue Jays before the 2013 season and signed with the Indians. He split 2013 between Rookie Arizona and Triple A Columbus before a back injury ended his season. He hit .440/.481/.560 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 0 SB in 6 games at Arizona and hit .192/.250/.192 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 7 games at Columbus.

The New York Mets drafted first baseman Ike Davis 18th out of Arizona State. He split 2013 between Triple A Las Vegas and the Mets. He hit .293/.424/.667 with 7 HR, 13 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 21 games at Las Vegas and hit .205/.326/.334 with 9 HR, 33 RBI, 37 R, 4 SB in 103 games with the Mets.

The Chicago Cubs drafted RHP Andrew Cashner 19th out of Texas Christian University. He was traded to the Padres in 2012. He pitched in 2013 with the Padres. He was 10-9, 3.09 ERA, 128 K, 1.13 WHIP in 175.0 IP over 31 games.

The Seattle Mariners drafted RHP Josh Fields 20th out of Georgia. He was traded to the Red Sox in 2011. He was drafted by the Astros in the 2012 Rule 5 draft. He split 2013 between Class A Quad Cities, Double A Corpus Christi and the Astros. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 K, 0.50 WHIP in 4.0 IP over 2 games at Quad Cities, was 0-0, 3.00 ERA, 4 K, 1.17 WHIP in 6.0 IP over 5 games at Corpus Christi and was 1-3, 4.97 ERA, 40 K, 1.29 WHIP, 5 SV in 38.0 IP over 41 games with the Astros.
