The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how the top 10 players of the 2008 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The first player drafted in 2008 was shortstop Tim Beckham by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Griffin High School in Griffin, GA. He split 2013 between Triple A Durham and the Rays. He hit .276/.342/.387 with 4 HR, 51 RBI, 71 R, 17 SB in 122 games at Durham and hit .429/.375/.429 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 5 games with the Rays.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted third baseman Pedro Alvarez second out of Vanderbilt. He played 2013 with the Pirates. He hit .233/.296/.473 with 36 HR, 100 RBI, 70 R, 2 SB in 152 games.

The Kansas City Royals drafted first baseman Eric Hosmer third out of American Heritage School in Plantation, FL. He played 2013 with the Royals. He hit .302/.353/.448 with 17 HR, 79 RBI, 86 R, 11 SB in 159 games.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted LHP Brian Matusz fourth out of the University of San Diego. He pitched in 2013 with the Orioles. He was 2-1, 3.53 ERA, 50 K, 1.16 WHIP in 51.0 IP over 65 games with the Orioles.

The San Francisco Giants drafted catcher Buster Posey fifth out of Florida State. He played 2013 with the Giants. He hit .294/.371/.450 with 15 HR, 72 RBI, 61 R, 2 SB in 148 games. He was the NL MVP in 2012.

The Florida Marlins drafted catcher Kyle Skipworth sixth out of Patriot High School in Rubidoux, CA. He split 2013 between Triple A New Orleans and the Marlins. He hit .188/.241/.397 with 11 HR, 30 RBI, 22 R, 0 SB in 73 games at New Orleans and was hitless in three at bats over four games with the Marlins.

The Cincinnati Reds drafted first baseman Yonder Alonso seventh out of Miami. He was traded to the Padres after the 2011 season. He split 2013 between Triple A Tucson and the Padres. He hit .571/.571/.571 with 0 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Tucson and hit .281/.341/.368 with 6 HR, 45 RBI, 34 R, 6 SB in 97 games with the Padres.
