2013 Where are they now 2007 MLB draft top 10

The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how the top 10 players of the 2007 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The first player drafted in 2007 was LHP David Price by the Tampa Bay Rays out of Vanderbilt. He pitched the 2013 season with the Rays. He was 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA, 151 K, 1.10 WHIP in 186.2 IP over 27 games. He won the 2012 Cy Young.

The Kansas City Royals drafted shortstop Mike Moustakas second out of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA. He played for the Royals in 2013. He hit .233/.287/.364 with 12 HR, 42 RBI, 42 R, 2 SB in 136 games.

The Chicago Cubs drafted third baseman Josh Vitters third out of Cypress High School in Cypress, CA. He split 2013 between Rookie Arizona and Triple A Iowa as he missed games with a calf injury.  He hit .077/.294/.154 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 5 games at Arizona and hit .295/.380/.511 with 5 HR, 12 RBI, 14 R, 1 SB in 28 games at Iowa.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted LHP Daniel Moskos fourth out of Clemson. The Chicago White Sox claimed him off waivers in 2012. He pitched in 2013 at Triple A Charlotte and was 2-1, 4.97 ERA, 28 K, 1.55 WHIP, 1 SV in 29.0 IP over 22 games.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted catcher Matt Wieters fifth out of Georgia Tech. He played the 2013 season with the Orioles. He hit .235/.287/.417 with 22 HR, 79 RBI, 59 R, 2 SB in 148 games.

The Washington Nationals drafted LHP Ross Detwiler sixth out of Missouri State. He split 2013 between the Nationals and a rehab assignment at Class A Advanced Potomac after a pinched nerve in his back. He was 0-0, 2.45 ERA, 4 K, 1.91 WHIP in 3.2 IP in i game at Potomac and was 2-7, 4.04 ERA, 39 K, 1.49 WHIP in 71.1 IP over 13 games with the Nationals.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Matt LaPorta seventh out of Florida. He was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2008. He missed part of the season after hip surgery and split 2013 between Rookie Arizona and Triple A Columbus. He hit .293/.404/.683 with 4 HR, 12 RBI, 9 R, 0 SB in 13 games at Arizona and hit .238/.310/.476 with 10 HR, 28 RBI, 21 R, 0 SB in 44 games at Columbus.

The Colorado Rockies drafted RHP Casey Weathers eighth out of Vanderbilt. He missed the 2013 season with a quad injury.

The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted RHP Jarrod Parker ninth out of Norwell High School in Ossian, IN. He was traded to the Athletics after the 2011 season. He pitched 2013 with the Athletics. He 12-8, 3.97 ERA, 134 K, 1.22 WHIP in 197.0 IP over 32 games.

The San Francisco Giants drafted LHP Madison Bumgarner tenth out of South Caldwell High School in Hudson, NC. He pitched the 2013 season with the Giants. He was 13-9, 2.77 ERA, 199 K, 1.03 WHIP in 201.1 IP over 31 games.
