San Francisco Giants Selected Contracts Prior to 2013 Rule 5 Draft

The San Francisco Giants selected the contracts of Kendry Flores from Class A Augusta, Adam Duvall from Double A Richmond and Gary Brown and Hunter Strickland from Triple A Fresno and placed them on the Giants 40 man roster. The move was made to protect the players from the upcoming Rule 5 draft on December 12. It is interesting to see which players an organization values as it moves the draft eligible players under the protective roster umbrella.

RHP Flores pitched in 2013 at Augusta. He was 10-6, 2.73 ERA, 137 K, 0.92 WHIP in 141.2 IP over 22 games. He originally signed with the Giants in 2009 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. Flores will be 23 on November 24.

Duvall is a third baseman who played in 2013 at Richmond. He hit .252/.320/.465 with 17 HR, 58 RBI, 61 R, 2 SB in 105 games. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the 11th round in 2010. Duvall turned 25 on September 4th.

Brown is an outfielder who played in 2013 at Fresno. He hit .231/.286/.375 with 13 HR, 50 RBI, 79 R, 17 SB in 137 games. He was originally drafted by the Giants with the 24th pick of the first round in 2010. Brown turned 25 on September 28.

RHP Strickland pitched in 2013 at Class A Advanced San Jose. He was 1-0, 0.86 ERA, 23 K, 0.71 WHIP, 9 SV in 21.0 IP over 20 games. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 18th round in 2007. He was traded to the Pirates in 2009 and was claimed off waivers by the Giants in April 2013. Strickland turned 25 on September 25.
