Victor G Willis was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1995 along with Richie Ashburn, Leon Day, William Hulbert and Mike Schmidt. Willis was a RHP with 13 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Boston Beaneaters (1898-1905), Pittsburgh Pirates (1906-1909) and St Louis Cardinals (1910). For his MLB career he was 249-205 with a 2.63 ERA, 1651 K, 1.21 WHIP, 11 SV, 388 complete games, 50 shut outs in 3996.0 IP over 513 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1899 when he was 27-8 with a 2.50 ERA, 120 K, 1.15 WHIP, 2 SV, 35 complete games, 5 shut outs in 342.2 IP over 41 games, 1906 when he was 23-13 with a 1.73 ERA, 124 K, 1.15 WHIP, 1 SV, 32 complete games, 6 shut outs in 322.0 IP over 41 games and 1908 when he was 23-11 with a 2.07 ERA, 97 K, 1.01 WHIP, 25 complete games, 7 shut outs in 304.2 IP over 41 games.
He led the National League in ERA in 1899, in strikeouts in 1902 (225), in saves in 1902 (3) and in shut outs in 1899 and 1901 (6).
Willis pitched a no hitter on August 7, 1899 against the Washington Senators.
