Joseph L Gordon was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2009 along with Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice. Gordon was a second baseman with 11 seasons MLB experience playing with the New York Yankees (1938-1943, 1946) and Cleveland Indians (1947-1950). He missed the 1944-1945 seasons serving in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. For his MLB career he hit .268/.357/.466 with 253 HR, 975 RBI, 914 R, 89 SB in 1566 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1940 when he hit .281/.340/.511 with 30 HR, 103 RBI, 112 R, 18 SB in 155 games, 1948 when he hit .280/.371/.507 with 32 HR, 124 RBI, 96 R, 5 SB in 144 games and 1942 when he hit .322/.409/.491 with 18 HR, 103 RBI, 88 R, 12 SB in 147 games.
He was an All Star nine times (1939-1943, 1946-1949). Gordon won the American League MVP in 1942. He won the World Series Championship with the Yankees in 1938, 1939, 1941 and 1943 and with the Indians in 1948.
He also served as manager for the Cleveland Indians (1958-1960) with a 184-161 record, Detroit Tigers (1960) with a 26-31 record, Kansas City Athletics (1961) with a 26-33 record and Kansas City Royals (1969) with a 69-93 record.
