Franklin Grant was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2006 along with Raymond Brown, Willard Brown, Andy Cooper, Pete Hill, Biz Mackey, Effa Manley, Jose Mendez, Alex Pompez, Cum Posey, Louis Santop, Bruce Sutter, Mule Suttles, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente, Solomon White, JL Wilkinson and Jud Wilson. Grant was inducted by the Negro League Committee. He was a second baseman who was considered the best African-American player of the 19th century as he played in the minors for the Meriden Silvermen (1886) and Buffalo Bisons (1886-1888). In 1887 he led the International League in home runs (11) and stolen bases (40) while batting .353 in 105 games.
Then after blacks were banned he played in the Negro Leagues with the Trenton Cuban Giants (1889, 1891-1897, 1899), Harrisburg Ponies (1890), Ansonia Cuban Giants (1891) and Philadelphia Giants (1902-1903).
