Bowie Kuhn was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2008 along with Barney Dreyfuss, Goose Gossage, Walter O'Malley. Billy Southworth and Dick Williams. Kuhn was inducted by the Veteran's Committee as an executive and pioneer. He was the fifth Commissioner of Major League Baseball (1969-1984). In 1971 he had the vision to push for the airing of the World Series at night to reach a wider audience. During his tenure Kuhn suspended numerous players for gambling infractions including Denny McLain in 1970 and he suspended several players for drug use including Ferguson Jenkins in 1980. Kuhn supported the inclusion of Negro League players in the Hall of Fame which opened the door for the induction of Satchel Paige in 1971 as the first.
