Willard Brown was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2006 along with Raymond Brown, Andy Cooper, Franklin Grant, Pete Hill, Biz Mackey, Effa Manley, Jose Mendez, Alex Pompez, Cum Posey, Louis Santop, Bruce Sutter, Mule Suttles, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente, Solomon White, JL Wilkinson and Jud Wilson. Brown was inducted by the Negro League Committee. He was an outfielder who played with the Kansas City Monarchs (1936-1944, 1946-1948). He missed the 1945 season serving in the United States Army during World War II. While incomplete the stats show in league he hit .348/.382 /.565 with 53 HR, 194 RBI, 297 R, 71 SB. He won the Negro League World Series with the Monarchs in 1942.
He did have one season MLB experience playing with the St Louis Browns in 1947. He hit .179/.179/.269 with 1 HR, 6 RBI, 4 R, 2 SB in 21 games. His home run was the first by an African-American in American League history. The fact he played in the Majors without acclimation time in the minors didn't help his development.
