Billy Southworth was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2008 along with Barney Dreyfuss, Goose Gossage, Bowie Kuhn. Walter O'Malley and Dick Williams. Southworth was an outfielder with 13 seasons MLB experience playing with the Cleveland Naps (1913), Cleveland Indians (1915), Pittsburgh Pirates (1918-1920), Boston Braves (1921-1923), New York Giants (1924-1926) and St Louis Cardinals (1926-1927, 1929). For his MLB career he hit .297/.359/.415 with 52 HR, 561 RBI, 661 R, 138 SB. He led the National League in triples in 1919 (14).
However his was his career as manager that warranted his induction to the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. He was manager of the St Louis Cardinals (1929, 1940-1945) with a 620-346 record and Boston Braves (1946-1949, 1950-1951) with a 424-358 record. His 1044 career wins ranks 52nd all time. He won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1942 and 1944.
