Solomon White was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2006 along with Raymond Brown, Willard Brown, Andy Cooper, Franklin Grant, Pete Hill, Biz Mackey, Effa Manley, Jose Mendez, Alex Pompez, Cum Posey, Louis Santop, Bruce Sutter, Mule Suttles, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente, JL Wilkinson and Jud Wilson. White was inducted by the Negro League Committee as an executive and pioneer. He was a second baseman on the Pittsburgh Keynotes in the National Colored Baseball League in 1887. It was the first league of all-black teams but it folded after two weeks. He went on to play for Wheeling Green Stockings (1887), New York Gorhams (1889), York Monarchs (1890), Cuban Giants (1889-1891, 1893-1894, 1896), Philadelphia Big Gorhams (1891), Fort Wayne (1895), Page Fence Giants (1895), Cuban X Giants (1896-1899), 1901), Chicago Columbia Giants (1900), Philadelphia Giants (1902-1909), Brooklyn Royal Giants (1910), New York Lincoln Giants (1911) and Boston Giants (1912). In the minor leagues he had a career .356 average over five seasons but his over all stats on his other teams are elusive.
White had been one of the founders of the Philadelphia Giants and managed the team. He also managed for the Brooklyn Royal Giants (1910), New York Lincoln Giants (1911-1912), Columbus Buckeyes (1920), Cleveland Browns (1924) and Newark Stars (1926). White was also a baseball historian and his book Sol White's History of Colored Baseball was the first ever to discuss black baseball.
