Walter O'Malley was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2008 along with Barney Dreyfuss, Goose Gossage, Bowie Kuhn. Billy Southworth and Dick Williams. O'Malley was inducted by the Veteran's Committee as an executive and pioneer. He was an owner of the Brooklyn\Los Angeles Dodgers (1945-1979). He helped break the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947 with the signing of Jackie Robinson and also served as the Dodgers chief legal counsel on the deal. In 1958 he moved the Dodgers to Los Angeles and was influential in having the Giants move to San Francisco to keep their rivalry going.
