Bert Blyleven was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2011 along with Roberto Alomar and Pat Gillick. Blyleven was a RHP with 22 seasons MLB experience pitching for the Minnesota Twins (1970-1976, 1985-1988), Texas Rangers (1976-1977), Pittsburgh Pirates (1978-1980), Cleveland Indians (1981-1985) and California Angels (1989-1990, 1992). For his MLB career he was 287-250 with a 3.31 ERA, 3701 K, 1.20 WHIP, 242 complete games, 60 shut outs in 4970.0 IP over 692 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1973 when he was 20-17 with a 2.52 ERA, 258 K, 1.12 WHIP, 25 complete games, 9 shut outs in 325.0 IP over 40 games, 1984 when he was 19-7 with a 2.87 ERA, 170 K, 1.13 WHIP, 12 complete games, 4 shut outs in 245.0 IP over 33 games and 1989 when he was 17-5 with a 2.73 ERA, 131 K, 1.12 WHIP, 8 complete games, 5 shut outs in 241.0 IP over 33 games.
Blyleven led the American League in strikeouts in 1985 (206). He led the AL in shut outs in 1973, 1985 (5) and 1989.
He was an All Star twice (1973, 1985). He pitched a no hitter on September 22, 1977 against the California Angels. Blyleven won the World Series Championship with the Pirates in 1979 and with the Twins in 1987.
