Here is my week five installment of College Spotlight for 2013. This week I am looking at Tarran Senay of North Carolina State and Charley Sullivan of Alabama.
Senior OF\1B Tarran Senay is out of South Park High School in South Park, PA. Senay had a 5 for 5 game last Friday against Wake Forest which included a HR, 3 RBI, 3 R while he played first base. For the season he is hitting .329/.408/.598 with 4 HR, 24 RBI, 15 R, 2 SB in 22 games. Last season as a junior he hit .222/.323/.415 with 6 HR, 32 RBI, 26 R, 2 SB in 53 games. Its hard to say if he is a late bloomer but he is providing senior leadership as they are starting conference play in the ACC.
Senior RHP Charley Sullivan is out of Oxford High School in Oxford, MS. He made his way to Alabama after a time at Northwest Mississippi CC. Sullivan picked up his first win last Friday with a complete game as his Crimson Tide rolled over Tennessee 12-1. His line for the game was 9.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K in 106 pitches. For the season he is 1-1, with a 3.19 ERA, 30 K, 1.29 WHIP in 31.0 IP over 5 games. Last season as a junior he was 2-3 with a 5.09 ERA, 34 K, 1.51 WHIP in 63.2 IP over 14 games. He's taken a jump in his last season but will have to continue to battle his control down the stretch. With 5 wild pitches he has already surpassed his total of 4 in the previous two seasons combined. A positive is that he's making his pitches less hittable as opposing batters are at .282 compared to .308 and .309 in the previous two seasons.
