Richard (Dick) Williams was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2008 along with Barney Dreyfuss, Goose Gossage, Bowie Kuhn. Walter O'Malley and Billy Southworth. Williams was an OF\3B\1B with 13 seasons MLB experience playing with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1951-1954, 1956), Baltimore Orioles (1956-1957, 1958, 1961-1962), Kansas City Athletics (1959-1960) and Boston Red Sox (1963-1964). For his MLB career he hit .260/.312/.392 with 70 HR, 331 RBI, 358 R, 12 SB in 1023 games.
However his was his career as manager that warranted his induction to the Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. He was manager for the Boston Red Sox (1967-1969) with a 260-217 record, Oakland Athletics (1971-1973) with a 288-190 record, California Angels (1974-1976) with a 147-194 record, Montreal Expos (1977-1981) with a 380-347 record, San Diego Padres (1982-1985) with a 337-311 record and Seattle Mariners (1986-1988) with a 159-192 record. His 1571 career wins ranks 20th all time. Williams won the the World Series Championship with the Athletics in 1972 and 1973.
