Julio Rodriguez traded to Orioles

Julio Rodriguez was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Baltimore Orioles on March 24, 2013. In exchange the Phillies received Ronnie Welty.

RHP Rodriguez pitched in 2012 at Double A Reading. He was 7-7, 4.23 ERA, 136 K, 1.47 WHIP in 134.0 IP over 29 games. He was originally drafted by the Phillies in the eighth round in 2008. Rodriguez will be 23 on August 29.

Welty is an outfielder who split 2012 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Aberdeen, Class A Advanced Frederick and Double A Bowie. He hit .200/.333/.300 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Gulf Coast, hit .700/.800/1.500 with 2 HR, 8 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB in 3 games at Aberdeen, hit .415/.446/.830 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 12 R, 3 SB in 13 games at Frederick and hit .286/.303/.564 with 8 HR, 30 RBI, 23 R, 1 SB in 37 games at Bowie. He was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 20th round in 2008. Welty turned 25 on January 19.
