J L Wilkinson was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2006 along with Raymond Brown, Willard Brown, Andy Cooper, Franklin Grant, Pete Hill, Biz Mackey, Effa Manley, Jose Mendez, Alex Pompez, Cum Posey, Louis Santop, Bruce Sutter, Mule Suttles, Ben Taylor, Cristobal Torriente, Solomon White and Jud Wilson. Wilkinson was inducted by the Negro League Committee as an executive and pioneer. He founded and managed the All Nations team (1912-1917) which was a multi ethnic team. He founded the Kansas City Monarchs in 1920 as a charter member of the Negro National League. He owned the Monarchs 1920-1948 and in that time the team won ten pennants and two Negro World Series Championships in 1924 and 1942.
He was a pioneer when he helped organize the first night baseball game in baseball history on April 29, 1930 when he bought portable lights. Wilkinson also held the executive positions of secretary with the Negro National League and treasurer of the Negro American League at different times.
