Richard (Goose) Gossage was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame Class of 2008 along with Barney Dreyfuss, Bowie Kuhn, Walter O'Malley. Billy Southworth and Dick Williams. Gossage was a RHP with 22 seasons MLB experience playing with the Chicago White Sox (1972-1976), Pittsburgh Pirates (1977), New York Yankees (1978-1983, 1989), San Diego Padres (1984-1987), Chicago Cubs (1988), San Francisco Giants (1989), Texas Rangers (1991), Oakland Athletics (1992-1993) and Seattle Mariners (1994). For his MLB career he was 124-107 with a 3.01 ERA, 152 K, 1.23 WHIP, 310 SV, 16 complete games in 1809.1 IP over 1002 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1981 when he was 3-2 with a 0.77 ERA, 48 K, 0.77 WHIP, 20 SV in 46.2 IP over 32 games, 1977 when he was 11-9 with a 1.62 ERA, 151 K, 0.95 WHIP, 26 SV in 133.0 IP over 72 games and 1985 when he was 5-3 with a 1.82 ERA, 52 K, 1.02 WHIP, 26 SV in 79.0 IP over 50 games.
Gossage led the American League in saves in 1975 (26), 1978 (27) and 1980 (33).
He was an All Star nine times (1975-1979, 1980-1982, 1984-1985). Gossage won the World Series Championship with the Yankees in 1978.
