Vernon Wells traded to Yankees

Vernon Wells was traded by the Los Angeles Angels to the New York Yankees on March 26, 2013. In exchange the Angels received Exicardo Cayones and Kramer Sneed.

Wells is an outfielder with 14 seasons MLB experience playing with the Angels and Blue Jays. He split 2012 between Triple A Salt Lake and the Angels. He hit .308/.357/.577 with 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 3 SB in 7 games at Salt Lake and hit .230/.279/.403 with 11 HR, 29 RBI, 36 R, 3 SB in 77 games with the Angels. For his MLB career he has hit .273/.321/.467 with 259 HR, 908 RBI, 885 R, 102 SB in 1601 games. He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays with the fifth pick of the first round in 1997. Wells turned 34 on December 8th.

Cayones is an outfielder who played in 2012 at Class A Staten Island. He hit .228/.374/.291 with 1 HR, 15 RBI, 22 R, 7 SB in 47 games. He was originally signed by the Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2008 out of Venezuela. Cayones turned 21 on October 9th.

LHP Sneed pitched in 2012 at Class A Advanced Tampa. He was 0-7, 5.37 ERA, 49 K, 1.65 WHIP in 63.2 IP over 31 games. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the 32nd round in 2010. Sneed turned 24 on October 7th.
