James Hoyt Wilhelm was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1985 along with Lou Brock, Enos Slaughter and Arky Vaughn. Wilhelm was a RHP with 21 seasons MLB experience pitching with the New York Giants (1952-1956), St Louis Cardinals (1957), Cleveland Indians (1957-1958), Baltimore Orioles (1958-1962), Chicago White Sox (1963-1968), California Angels (1969), Atlanta Braves (1969-1970, 1971) , Chicago Cubs (1970) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-1972). He served in the United States Army during World War II 1943-1945. Wilhelm was a knuckle ball pitcher who didn't reach the Majors until the age of 29 but still pitched until he was 49. For his MLB career he was 143-122 with a 2.52 ERA, 1610 K, 1.12 WHIP, 227 SV, 20 complete games, 5 shut outs in 2254.1 IP over 1070 games.

I believe his three best seasons were 1952 when he was 15-3 with a 2.43 ERA, 108 K, 1.15 WHIP, 11 SV in 159.1 IP over 71 games, 1959 when he was 15-11 with a 2.19 ERA, 139 K, 1.13 WHIP, 13 complete games, 3 shut outs in 226.0 IP over 32 games and 1954 when he was 12-4 with a 2.10 ERA, 64 K, 1.16 WHIP, 7 SV in 111.1 IP over 57 games.

Wilhelm led the MLB in ERA in 1952 and 1959.

He was an All Star eight times (1953, 1959, 1961-1962, 1970).  Wilhelm won the World Series Championship with the Giants in 1954.
