William Hulbert was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1995 along with Richie Ashburn, Leon Day, Mike Schmidt and Victor Willis. Hulbert was inducted by the Veteran's Committee as an executive and pioneer. He was involved with the Chicago White Stockings from the beginning as they were one of the original ten teams that formed the National Association in 1871. In 1875 he became the president of the White Stockings. Hulbert was a central figure that brought together the eight teams which formed the much stronger National League in 1876. He became the second National League president and held the position 1877-1882.
The Chicago White Stockings retained that name 1876-1889, were the Chicago Colts 1890-1897, were the Chicago Orphans 1898-1902 and became the Chicago Cubs in 1903.
