Steven N Carlton was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1994 along with Leo Durocher and Phil Rizzuto. Carlton was a LHP with 24 seasons MLB experience pitching with the St Louis Cardinals (1965-1971), Philadelphia Phillies (1972-1986), San Francisco Giants (1986), Chicago White Sox (1986), Cleveland Indians (1987) and Minnesota Twins (1987-1988). For his MLB career he was 329-244 with a 3.22 ERA, 4136 K, 1.25 WHIP, 2 SV, 254 complete games, 55 shut outs in 5217.2 IP over 741 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1972 when he was 27-10 with a 1.97 ERA, 310 K, 0.99 WHIP, 30 complete games, 8 shut outs in 346.1 IP over 41 games, 1980 when he was 24-9 with a 2.34 ERA, 286 K, 1.09 WHIP, 13 complete games, 3 shut outs in 304.0 IP over 38 games and 1977 when he was 23-10 with a 2.64 ERA, 198 K, 1.12 WHIP, 17 complete games, 2 complete games in 283.0 IP over 36 games.
Carlton won the National League Cy Young in 1972, 1977, 1980 and 1982 when he was 23-11 with a 3.10 ERA, 286 K, 1.15 WHIP, 19 complete games, 6 shut outs in 295.2 IP over 38 games.
Carlton led the National League in wins in 1972, 1977, 1980 and 1982. He led the NL in ERA in 1972. He led the NL in strikeouts in 1972, 1974 (240). 1980, 1982 and 1983 (275). He led the NL in shut outs in 1982.
He was an All Star 10 times (1968-1969-1971-1972, 1974, 1977, 1979-1982). He won a Gold Glove in 1981. Carlton won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1967 and the Phillies in 1980.
