George L (Sparky) Anderson was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2000 along with Carlton Fisk, Bid McPhee, Tony Perez and Turkey Stearnes. Anderson was inducted by the Veteran's Committee as a Manager. He was manager for the Cincinnati Reds (1970-1978) with a 863-586 record and Detroit Tigers (1979-1995) with a 1331-1248 record. His 2164 career wins ranks sixth all time. He won the American League Manager of the Year in 1984 and 1987. Anderson won the World Series Championship with the Reds in 1975 and 1976 and the Tigers in 1984.
Anderson did have one season MLB experience playing second base for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1959. He hit .218/.282/.249 with 0 HR, 34 RBI, 42 R, 6 SB in 152 games.
