Joe (Smokey) Williams was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1999 along with George Brett, Orlando Cepeda, Nestor Chylak, Nolan Ryan, Frank Selee and Robin Yount. Williams was inducted by the Veteran's Committee and had been a player in the Negro Leagues. He was a RHP also known as Cyclone Joe who pitched for the San Antonio Black Bronchos (1907-1909), Chicago Giants (1910), New York Lincoln Giants (1911-1923), Brooklyn Royal Giants (1924), and Homestead Grays (1925-1932). While stats are incomplete they show he was 87-52 with a 2.25 ERA, 836 K, 1.15 WHIP. He had an epic game on August 7, 1930 when he struck out 27 batters in a 12 inning 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs. Williams also did several years of barn storming where he pitched dozens of no hitters.
