Albert F (Red) Schoendienst was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1989 along with Al Barlick, Johnny Bench and Carl Yastrzemski. Schoendienst was a 2B\OF with 19 seasons MLB experience playing with the St Louis Cardianls (1945-1956, 1961-1963), New York Giants (1956-1957) and Milwaukee Braves (1957-1960). For his MLB career he hit .289/.337/.387 with 84 HR, 773 RBI, 1223 R, 89 SB in 2216 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1953 when he hit .342/.405/.502 with 15 HR, 79 RBI, 107 R, 3 SB in 146 games, 1954 when he hit .315/.366/.428 with 5 HR, 79 RBI, 98 R, 4 SB in 148 games and 1957 when he hit .309/.344/.451 with 15 HR, 65 RBI, 91 R, 4 SB in 150 games.
Schoendienst led the National League in doubles in 1950 (43). He led the NL in steals in 1945 (26).
He was an All Star ten times (1946, 1948-1955, 1957). Schoendienst won the World Series Championship with the Cardinals in 1946 and the Giants in 1957.
Schoendienst also served as manager for the St Louis Cardinals (1965-1976, 1980, 1990) with a 1041-955 record. His 1041 career wins ranks 53rd all time. He won two more World Series Championships in 1964 and 1967.
