Edward H (Ned) Hanlon was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1996 along with Jim Bunning, Bill Foster and Earl Weaver. Hanlon was an outfielder with 13 seasons MLB experience playing with the Cleveland Blues (1880), Detroit Wolverines (1881-1888), Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1889), Pittsburgh Burghers (1890), Pittsburgh Pirates (1891) and Baltimore Orioles (1892). For his MLB career he hit .260/.325/.340 with 30 HR, 517 RBI, 930 R, 329 SB in 1267 games. Hanlon won the NL pennant with the Wolverines in 1887.
However it was his career as a manager that warranted his induction into the Hall of Fame. He was manager for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1889) with a 26-18 record, Pittsbugh Burghers (1890) with a 60-68 record, Pittsbugh Pirates (1891) with a 31-47 record, Baltimore Orioles (1892-1898) with a 555-369 record, Brooklyn Superbas (1899-1905) with a 511-488 record and Cincinnati Reds (1906-1907) with a 130-174 record. His 1313 career wins ranks 29th all time. Hanlon won the NL pennant with the Orioles in 1894, 1895 and 1896 and the Superbas in 1899 and 1900.
