Leon Day was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1995 along with Richie Ashburn, William Hulbert, Mike Schmidt and Victor Willis. Day was inducted by the Veteran' Committee and had playing in the Negro Leagues. He was a RHP\2B who played for the Baltimore Black Sox (1934), Brooklyn Eagles (1935), Newark Eagles (1936-1943, 1946), Homestead Grays (1937) and Philadelphia Stars (1946). He missed the 1944-1945 seasons while serving in the United States Army during World War II. While incomplete his stats show he was 67-29 with 271 K as a pitcher and hit .286/.313/.388.
1937 was his best season when he was 13-0 and hit .320 playing for the Eagles and the Homestead Grays recruited him to play in the Negro League World Series. In 1942 he set the Negro League single game record by striking out 18 against the Baltimore Elite Giants on opening day. He had another opening day feat in 1946 when he pitched a no hitter against the Philadelphia Stars. Day won the Negro League World Series with Newark in 1946.
