Johnny L Bench was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1989 along with Al Barlick, Red Schoendienst and Carl Yastrzemski. Bench was a catcher with 17 seasons MLB experience playing all with the Cincinnati Reds (1967-1983). For his MLB career he hit .267/.342/.476 with 389 HR, 1376 RBI, 1091 R, 68 SB in 2158 games. He threw out 43% of those that attempted to steal on him.
I believe his three best seasons were 1970 when he hit .293/.345/.587 with 45 HR, 148 RBI, 97 R, 5 SB in 158 games, 1974 when he hit .280/.363/.507 with 33 HR, 129 RBI, 108 R, 5 SB in 160 games and 1972 when he hit .270/.379/.541 with 40 HR, 125 RBI, 87 R, 6 SB in 147 games.
Bench won the National League Rookie of the Year in 1968 when he hit .275/.311/.433 with 15 HR, 82 RBI, 67 R, 1 SB in 154 games.
Bench led the National League in home runs in 1970 and 1972. He led the NL in RBI in 1970, 1972 and 1974.
He was an All Star 14 times (1968-1980, 1983). He won 10 Gold Gloves (1968-1977). Bench was the National League MVP in 1970 and 1972. He won the World Series Championship with the Reds in 1975 and 1976.
