Gaylord J Perry was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1991 along with Rod Carew, Fergie Jenkins, Tony Lazzari and William Veeck. Perry was a RHP with 22 seasons MLB experience pitching with the San Francisco Giants (1962-1971), Cleveland Indians (1972-1975), Texas Rangers (1975-1977, 1980), San Diego Padres (1978-1979), New York Yankees (1980), Atlanta Braves (1981), Seattle Mariners (1982-1983) and Kansas City Royals (1983). For his MLB career he was 314-265 with a 3.11 ERA, 3534 K, 1.18 WHIP, 11 SV, 303 complete games, 53 shut outs in 5350.0 IP over 777 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1972 when he was 24-16 with a 1.92 ERA, 234 K, 0.98 WHIP, 1 SV, 29 complete games, 5 shut outs in 342.2 IP over 41 games, 1970 when he was 23-13 with a 3.20 ERA, 214 K, 1.14 WHIP, 23 complete games, 5 shut outs in 328.2 IP over 41 games and 1966 when he was 21-8 with a 2.99 ERA, 201 K, 1.10 WHIP, 13 complete games, 3 shut outs in 255.2 IP over 36 games.
Perry won the American League Cy Young in 1972 and won the National League Cy Young in 1978 when he was 21-6 with a 2.73 ERA, 154 K, 1.18 WHIP, 5 complete games, 2 shut outs in 260.2 IP over 37 games.
Perry led the National League in wins in 1970 and 1978 (21). He led the NL in shut outs in 1970. He led the American League in wins in 1972.
He was an All Star five times (1966, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1979). He pitched a no hitter on September 17, 1968 against the St Louis Cardinals.
