Ernest N Lombardi was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1986 along with Robert Doerr and Willie McCovey. Lombardi was a catcher with 17 seasons MLB experience playing with the Brooklyn Robins (1931), Cincinnati Reds (1932-1941), Boston Braves (1942) and New York Giants (1943-1947). For his MLB career he hit .306/.358/.460 with 190 HR, 990 RBI, 601 R, 8 SB in 1853 games. He threw out 47% of those that attempted to steal on him.
I believe his three best seasons were 1938 when he hit .342/.391/.524 with 19 HR, 95 RBI, 60 R, 0 SB in 129 games, 1945 when he hit .307/.387/.486 with 19 HR, 70 RBI, 46 R, 0 SB in 115 games and 1939 when he hit .287/.342/.487 with 20 HR, 85 RBI, 43 R, 0 SB in 130 games.
Lombardi was the National League batting champ in 1938 and 1942 (.330).
He was an All Star eight times (1936-1940, 1942-1943, 1945).
Lombardi was the National League MVP in 1938. He won the World Series Championship with the Reds in 1940.
