Enos B (Country) Slaughter was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1985 along with Lou Brock, Arky Vaughn and Hoyt Wilhelm. Slaughter was an outfielder with 19 seasons MLB experience playing with the St Louis Cardinals (1938-1942, 1946-1953), New York Yankees (1954-1955, 1956-1959), Kansas City Athletics (1955-1956) and Milwaukee Braves (1959). He missed the 1943-1945 seasons while serving with the United States Army Air Force during World War II. For his MLB career he hit .300/.382/.453 with 169 HR, 1304 RBI, 1247 R, 71 SB in 2380 games.
I believe his three best seasons were 1946 when he hit .300/.374/.465 with 18 HR, 130 RBI, 100 R, 9 SB in 156 games, 1942 when he hit .318/.412/.494 with 13 HR, 98 RBI, 100 R, 9 SB in 152 games and 1949 when he hit .336/.418/.511 with 13 HR, 96 RBI, 92 R, 3 SB in 151 games.
Slaughter led the National League in doubles in 1939 (52). He led the NL in triples in 1942 (17) and 1949 (13). He led the NLin RBI in 1946.
He was an All Star ten times (1941-1942, 1946-1953). He was second in NL MVP voting in 1942. Slaughter won the World Series Championship four times: with the Cardinals in 1942 and 1946 and with the Yankees in 1956 and 1958.
