Dennis L Eckersley was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 2004 along with Paul Molitor. Eckersley was a RHP with 24 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Cleveland Indians (1975-1977), Boston Red Sox (1978-1984, 1998), Chicago Cubs (1984-1986), Oakland Athletics (1987-1995 and St Louis Cardinals (1996-1997). For his MLB career he was 197-171 with a 3.50 ERA, 2401 K, 1.16 WHIP, 390 SV, 100 complete games, 20 shut outs in 3285.2 IP over 1071 games. He split his career as a starting pitcher and elite closer.
I believe his three best seasons were 1978 when he was 20-8 with a 2.99 ERA, 162 K, 1.23 WHIP, 16 complete games, 3 shut outs in 268.1 IP over 35 games, 1992 when he was 7-1 with a 1.91 ERA, 93 K, 0.91 WHIP, 51 SV in 80.0 IP over 69 games and 1990 when he was 4-2 with a 0.61 ERA, 73 K, 0.61 WHIP, 48 SV in 73.1 IP over 63 games.
Eckersley led the American League in saves in 1988 (45) and 1992.
He was an All Star six times (1977, 1982, 1988, 1990-1992). Eckersley won the American League Cy Young and MVP in 1992. He finished second in Cy Young voting in 1988. Eckersley won the World Series Championship with the Athletics in 1989.
