James A (Catfish) Hunter was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1987 along with Ray Dandridge and Billy Williams. Hunter was a RHP with 15 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Kansas City Athletics (1965-1967), Oakland Athletics (1968-1974) and New York Yankees (1975-1979). For his MLB career he was 224-166 with a 3.26 ERA, 2012 K, 1.13 WHIP, 1 SV, 181 complete games, 42 shut outs in 3449.1 IP over 500 games.
I believe this three best seasons were 1974 when he was 25-12 with a 2.49 ERA, 143 K, 0.99 WHIP, 23 complete games, 6 shut outs in 318.1 IP over 41 games, 1972 when he was 21-7 with a 2.04 ERA, 191 K, 0.91 WHIP, 16 complete games, 5 shut outs in 295.1 IP over 38 games and 1975 when he was 23-14 with a 2.58 ERA, 177 K, 1.01 WHIP, 30 complete games, 7 shut outs in 328.0 IP over 39 games.
Hunter led the American League in wins in 1974 and 1975. He led the AL in ERA in 1974.
He was an All Star eight times (1966-1967, 1972, 1972-1976). He pitched a no hitter on May 8, 1968 against the Minnesota Twins which was also a perfect game. Hunter won the AL Cy Young in 1974. He won the World Series Championship five times: with the Athletics in 1972, 1973 and 1974 and with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978.
