William A McGowan was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame class of 1992 along with Rollie Fingers, Hal Newhouser and Tom Seaver. McGowan was inducted by the Veteran's Committee as an Umpire. He was an Umpire in the American League for 30 seasons (1925-1954). He also founded and operated the Bill McGowan School for Umpires (1939-1954) in West Palm Beach, FL.
