Danny Valencia was traded by the Baltimore Orioles to the Kansas City Royals on December 18, 2013. In exchange the Royals received David Lough.
Valencia is a third baseman with four seasons MLB experience playing with the Orioles, Red Sox and Twins. He split 2013 between Triple A Norfolk and the Orioles. He hit .286/.326/.531 with 14 HR, 51 RBI, 40 R, 1 SB in 65 games at Norfolk and hit .304/.335/.553 with 8 HR, 23 RBI, 20 R, 0 SB in 52 games with the Orioles. For his MLB career he has hit .263/.302/.412 with 33 HR, 156 RBI, 127 R, 4 SB in 335 games. He was originally drafted by the Twins in the 19th round in 2006. He was traded to the Red Sox in August 2012 and then traded to the Orioles in November 2012. Valencia turned 29 on September 19.
Lough is an outfielder with two seasons MLB experience playing with the Royals. He split 2013 between Triple A Omaha and the Royals. He hit .338/.391/.474 with 3 HR, 17 RBI, 29 R, 5 SB in 37 games at Omaha and hit .286/.311/.413 with 5 HR, 33 RBI, 35 R, 5 SB in 96 games with the Royals. For his MLB career he has hit .278/.308/.396 with 5 HR, 35 RBI, 44 R, 6 SB in 116 games. He was originally drafted by the Royals in the 11th round in 2007. Lough will be 28 on January 20.
