The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 21 to 31 of the 2012 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.
The Atlanta Braves drafted RHP Lucas Sims 21st out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, GA. He pitched in 2013 at Class A Rome. He was 12-4, 2.62 ERA, 134 K, 1.11 WHIP in 116.2 IP over 28 games.
The Toronto Blue Jays drafted RHP Marcus Stroman 22nd out of Duke. He pitched in 2013 at Double A New Hampshire. He was 9-5, 3.30 ERA, 129 K, 1.13 WHIP in 111.2 IP over 20 games.
The St Louis Cardinals drafted outfielder James Ramsey 23rd out of Florida State. He split 2013 between Class A Advanced Palm Beach, Double A Springfield and Triple A Memphis. He hit .361/.481/.557 with 1 HR, 7 RBI, 17 R, 1 SB in 18 games at Palm Beach, hit .251/.356/.424 with 15 HR, 44 RBI, 61 R, 8 SB in 93 games at Springfield and was hitless in 1 game at Memphis.
The Boston Red Sox drafted shortstop Deven Marrero 24th out Arizona State. He split 2013 between Class A Advanced Salem and Double A Portland. He hit .256/.341/.334 with 2 HR, 21 RBI, 50 R, 21 SB in 85 games at Salem and hit .236/.321/.236 with 0 HR, 5 RBI, 7 R, 6 SB in 19 games at Portland.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted third baseman Richie Shaffer 25th out of Clemson. He played in 2013 at Class A Advanced Charlotte. He hit .254/.308/.399 with 11 HR, 73 RBI, 55 R, 6 SB in 122 games.
The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted catcher Stryker Trahan 26th out of Acadiana High School in Lafayette, LA. He played 2013 at Rookie Missoula. He hit .254/.328/.462 with 10 HR, 33 RBI, 44 R, 1 SB in 59 games.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted catcher Clint Coulter 27th out of Union High School in Camas, WA. He split 2013 between Rookie Arizona, Rookie Helena and Class A Wisconsin. He hit .350/.409/.617 with 3 HR, 15 RBI, 12 R, 1 SB in 17 games at Arizona, hit .216/.263/.311 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 1 SB in 20 games at Helena and hit .207/.299/.345 with 3 HR, 13 RBI, 18 R, 1 SB in 33 games at Wisconsin.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted outfielder Victor Roache 28th out of Georgia Southern. He played in 2013 at Class A Wisconsin. He hit .248/.322/.440 with 22 HR, 74 RBI, 62 R, 6 SB in 119 games.
The Texas Rangers drafted outfielder Lewis Brinson 29th out of Coral Springs High School in Coral Springs, FL. He played in 2013 at Class A Hickory. He hit .237/.322/.427 with 21 HR, 52 RBI, 64 R, 24 SB in 122 games.
The New York Yankees drafted RHP Ty Hensley 30th out of Edmond Santa Fe High School in Edmond, OK. He missed the 2013 due to a hip injury.
The Boston Red Sox drafted LHP Brian Johnson 31st out of Florida. He split 2013 between Rookie Gulf Coast, Class A Greenville and Class A Advanced Salem. He was 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 K, 0.60 WHIP in 5.0 IP over 2 games at Gulf Coast, was 1-6, 2.87 ERA, 69 K, 1.13 WHIP in 69.0 IP over 15 games at Greenville and was 1-0, 1.64 ERA, 8 K, 1.27 WHIP in 11.0 IP over 2 games at Salem.
