Roy Halladay retires

Roy Halladay announced his retirement from playing baseball in December 2013. Halladay was a RHP with 16 seasons MLB experience pitching with the Blue Jays (1998-2009) and Phillies (2010-2013). In 2013 he was 4-5, 6.82 ERA, 51 K, 1.47 WHIP in 62.0 IP over 13 games. For his MLB career he was 203-105, 3.38 ERA, 2117 K, 1.18 WHIP, 1 SV in 2749.1 IP over 416 games. 

He won the AL Cy Young in 2003 when he was 22-7, 3.25 ERA, 204 K, 1.07 WHIP in 266.0 IP over 36 games with the Blue Jays. He won the NL Cy Young in 2010 when he was 21-10, 2.44 ERA, 219 K, 1.04 WHIP in 250.2 IP over 33 games with the Phillies. He finished second in AL Cy Young voting in 2008 when he went 20-11, 2.78 ERA, 206 K, 1.05 WHIP in 246.0 IP over 34 games with the Blue Jays as he lost to Cliff Lee of the Indians. He finished second in NL Cy Young voting in 2011 when he was 19-6, 2.35 ERA, 220 K, 1.04 WHIP in 233.2 IP over 32 games with the Phillies as he lost to Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers.

He was originally drafted by the Blue Jays with the 17th pick of the first round in 1995 out of Arvada West High School in Arvada, CO. Halladay was 36 when he retired having had a birthday on May 14.
