2013 Where are they now 2009 MLB draft picks 21 to 32

The 2013 season is behind us and I'm checking how picks 21 to 32 of the 2009 draft did this season. Traditionally players drafted out of college advance faster than those drafted out of high school and pitchers usually advance faster than position players. Some players might also be traded to help their team get an established player that can help their team improve immediately.

The Houston Astros drafted shortstop Jiovanni Mier 21st out of Bonita High School in La Verne, CA. He played in 2013 at Double A Corpus Christi. He hit .194/.293/.265 with 5 HR, 28 RBI, 44 R, 9 SB in 104 games.

The Minnesota Twins drafted RHP Kyle Gibson 22nd out of Missouri. He split 2013 between Triple A Rochester and the Twins. He was 7-5, 2.92 ERA, 87 K, 1.16 WHIP in 101.2 IP over 17 games at Rochester and was 2-4, 6.53 ERA, 29 K, 1.75 WHIP in 51.0 IP over 10 games with the Twins.

The Chicago White Sox drafted outfielder Jared Mitchell 23rd out of LSU. He split Triple A Charlotte and Double A Birmingham. He hit .132/.277/.170 with 0 HR, 3 RBI, 7 R, 4 SB in 14 games at Charlotte and hit .174/.297/.275 with 5 HR, 20 RBI, 23 R, 13 SB in 76 games at Birmingham.

The Los Angeles Angels drafted outfielder Randal Grichuck 24th out of Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, TX. It was a compensation pick. He played in 2013 at Double A Arkansas. He hit .256/.306/.474 with 22 HR, 64 RBI, 85 R, 0 SB in 128 games. He was traded to the Cardinals in November 2013.

The Los Angeles Angels also drafted outfielder Mike Trout 25th out of Millville Senior High School in Millville, NJ. It was another compensation pick. He played in 2013 with the Angels. He hit .323/.432/.557 with 27 HR, 97 RBI, 109 R, 33 SB in 157 games.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted RHP Eric Arnett 26th out of Indiana. He split the 2013 season between Rookie Arizona and Class A Advanced Brevard County. He was 0-0, 7.20 ERA, 3 K, 1.80 WHIP in 5.0 IP over 4 games at Arizona and was 0-1, 0.87 ERA, 8 K, 1.26 WHIP in 10.1 IP over 6 games at Brevard County.

The Seattle Mariners drafted shortstop Nick Franklin 27th out of Lake Brantley High School in Almonte Springs, FL. He split 2013 between Triple A Tacoma and the Mariners. He hit .324/.440/.472 with 4 HR, 20 RBI, 28 R, 7 SB in 39 games at Tacoma and hit .225/.303/.382 with 12 HR, 45 RBI, 38 R, 6 SB in 102 games with the Mariners.

The Boston Red Sox drafted outfielder Reymond Fuentes 28th out of Fernando Callejo High School in Puerto Rico. He traded to the Padres in 2010. He split 2013 between Double A San Antonio, Triple A Tucson and the Padres. He hit .316/.396/.441 with 6 HR, 35 RBI, 56 R, 29 SB in 93 games at San Antonio, hit .418/.515/.491 with 0 HR, 8 RBI, 17 R, 6 SB in 14 games at Tucson and hit .152/.222/.152 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 4 R, 3 SB in 23 games with the Padres.

The New York Yankees drafted outfielder Slade Heathcott 29th out of Texas High School in Texarkana, TX. He played in 2013 at Double A Trenton. He hit .261/.327/.411 with 8 HR, 49 RBI, 59 RBI, 15 SB in 103 games.

The Tampa Bay Rays drafted second baseman LeVon Washington 30th out of Buchholz High School in Gainsville, FL. He then enrolled at Chipola College in Marianna, FL and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the second round in 2010. He split 2013 between Rookie Arizona and Class A Lake County. He hit .486/.548/.946 with 4 HR, 13 RBI, 9 R, 2 SB in 10 games at Arizona and hit .321/.425/.477 with 1 HR, 19 RBI, 33 R, 14 SB in 51 games at Lake County.

The Chicago Cubs drafted outfielder Brett Jackson 31st out of California. He split 2013 between Rookie Arizona, Double A Tennessee and Triple A Iowa. He hit .071/.133/.071 with 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, 0 SB in 4 games at Arizona, hit .200/.309/.284 with 0 HR, 4 RBI, 10 R, 2 SB in 30 games at Tennessee and hit .223/.300/.367 with 6 HR, 23 RBI, 24 R, 7 SB in 61 games at Iowa.

The Colorado Rockies drafted outfielder Tim Wheeler 32nd out of Sacramento State University. He played in 2013 at Triple A Colorado Springs. He hit .262/.330/.355 with 5 HR, 42 RBI, 59 R, 12 SB in 109 games.
